4. _K_n_o_w_n__P_r_o_b_l_e_m_s__a_n_d__W_o_r_k_a_r_o_u_n_d_s
This chapter describes the known problems with the 6.5
sysadmdesktop.
4.1 _C_l_o_g_i_n
+o The user can start entering the login name before the
account images appears. Key strokes may not echo but
they are read, so login can be completed before all
images appear.
4.2 _D_i_s_k
+o The Disk tasks should not be run while fx or dvhtool is
also running.
4.3 _N_e_t_w_a_r_e__f_i_l_e_s_y_s_t_e_m__s_i_z_e__r_e_p_o_r_t_i_n_g
+o Netware filesystem size reporting in the Filesystem
Manager does not work properly.
4.4 _D_O_S__a_n_d__M_a_c_i_n_t_o_s_h__H_a_r_d__d_i_s_k_s
+o The system administration tools do not recognize DOS or
Macintosh hard drives (they do recognize DOS and
Macintosh removable media devices). A workaround is to
manually mount these hard drives. See the mkfp(1M) and
mount(1M) man pages for details.
4.5 _I_S_D_N
+o ISDN line status should not be used remotely. In a
remote login session, the ISDN line status window is
displayed on the remote window rather than the local
window. So ISDN line status should only be used
locally.
4.6 _P_P_P
+o The /etc/ppp.conf file uses '#' as the beginning of a
comment. Anything after '#' is taken as comment. Since
'#' is also a valid character used by PPP, a '\' is
placed infront of '#' to distinguish the difference
between a comment and a real character. The PPP set up
tasks doesn't automatically insert '\' infront of '#'.
The user should enter the '\' when using the
configuration task, e.g., 'my#name' should be entered
as 'my\#name'.

4.7 _C_h_a_n_g_e__P_e_r_m_i_s_s_i_o_n_s
+o The Change Permissions tool will only display NIS user
names for users that are explicitly listed in
/etc/passwd in an entry such as your system using the
plus sign ('+') on a line by itself will not add any
users to the Users menu in the Change Permissions tool.
This problem has been assigned bug #556030 in Silicon
Graphics' internal bug tracking system.
+o If there is a large number of users on the system, the
Users menu can become so long that some entries are not
visible or selectable with the mouse. This problem has
been assigned bug #534666 in Silicon Graphics' internal
bug tracking system.
4.8 _S_y_s_t_e_m__M_a_n_a_g_e_r
+o If the colormap is full when System Manager is
launched, the category links (Overview, About this
System, etc.) on the left hand side are invisible
(white on a white background). The links are still
active. If you encounter this problem, you should
close System Manager and at least one other colormap-
intensive application (e.g. Netscape and FrameMaker)
and then restart System Manager. This problem has been
assigned bug #553084 in Silicon Graphics' internal bug
tracking system.
4.9 _E_Z_s_e_t_u_p
+o Clicking multiple times on buttons that launch the
Secure System, Network Setup or Add User tasks results
in an error dialog advising the user to contact their
system administrator. This dialog box is not necessary
and should be ignored. (SCR 562450)
+o Under certain conditions, exit from EZSetup will result
in an error dialog being displayed that says
"CGIOutput2.html not found." This dialog box is not
necessary and should be ignored. (SCR 572507)
4.10 _S_A_N__D_i_s_k_s
+o The Graphical System Manager tools do not recognize the
Fabric Disks that are used in SAN configurations. The
Disk Manager will not show any fabric disks, and the
Filesystem Manager will not show any filesystems that
are on fabric disks. Use the command line utilities to
administer these disks and filesystems.

4.11 _M_a_k_i_n_g__a__U_D_F__f_i_l_e_s_y_s_t_e_m__o_n__D_V_D_-_R_A_M
+o 6.5.21 release is not localized. Therefore, in step 3
and 4 of the "Format DVD" task, users in a non-English
environment will see a number 8 for the current format
instead of string "UDF".
